World Accreditation Day 2026

Every year on June 9, World Accreditation Day is celebrated (WAD 2026 – World Accreditation Day 2026). The 2026 theme highlights the fundamental role accreditation plays in driving innovation, trust, and sustainable development.

As part of their Mission and 2030 strategy, LATU and Latitud are joining this outreach and awareness campaign on the value of accreditation for conformity assessment, testing, and certification activities, as a guarantee of competence, impartiality, and reliability in their results. In this way, accreditation helps build safer societies, stronger economies, and a more sustainable world.

Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated (Global_aci) is the international authority on laboratory accreditation, among other areas, and in 2026 it assumed the functions previously carried out by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).

The Uruguayan Accreditation Body (OUA) is a signatory member of this network, thereby ensuring that accreditation of testing by OUA provides confidence in the technical competence, impartiality, and international recognition of the results issued by laboratories accredited by OUA.

In 2018, LATU began a gradual process with the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and OUA, promoting joint evaluations that, among other outcomes, strengthened local and regional capacities for the accreditation of testing under ISO/IEC 17025. During this period, LATU maintained joint accreditation of its food and environmental sample testing by both organizations. After a successful transition period, in 2026 LATU continues to maintain its accreditation scope through OUA.
