UEU-LATU Sustainable Management Seal: exporting companies deepen eco-design practices to strengthen environmental performance

On May 8, a virtual training on eco-design took place, organized under the framework of the UEU-LATU Sustainable Management Seal and led by technical teams from LATU and UEU. The activity was attended by representatives from 12 exporting companies, some of which were awarded the Seal in 2023 and 2024, while others have recently begun working on implementing its requirements. The session also welcomed UEU member organizations that have not yet obtained the Seal but are interested in improving their processes.

Can the impact of science be anticipated? A doctoral thesis supported by Latitud proposes a new approach to analyze it

The study builds on Pacheco’s previous work evaluating the impact of LATU’s initiatives and, subsequently, those of Latitud. As a result, she developed a methodology that integrates impact evaluation with strategic foresight, enabling actors within the science, technology, and innovation ecosystem not only to measure outcomes but also to identify opportunities to strengthen societal engagement and maximize benefits.

LATU and CTplas present key advances in the use of recycled plastics in Uruguayan industry

The project was developed in response to the challenge of promoting a circular economy in the plastics sector by creating technical tools that support the safe, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible use of recycled materials. Over the course of a year, the project team collaborated with various stakeholders in the production chain to identify barriers, analyze national and international regulatory frameworks, and develop protocols, technical data sheets, and the foundations for a certification scheme.

Irradiation Technology Applied to Industry

Irradiation—or ionization—technology is a sanitization and preservation method that involves exposing products to a controlled amount of ionizing radiation for a specific period. It is a physical process that does not rely on high temperatures, high pressures, or chemical contact. This means that alterations to the irradiated product are minimal or nonexistent. The process does not require post-treatment quarantine, can be applied to both raw materials and finished, packaged products, and is environmentally friendly—no waste is generated, and no natural resources such as water are consumed. These features make it a highly attractive technology for processing industries.
