LATU Innovation Park to Host South America’s First AI Lab
The LATU Innovation Park will host South America’s first artificial intelligence laboratory, a public-private initiative aimed at promoting the development of AI solutions with public and social impact.
Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab, which is also supported by Uruguay Innova, the National Development Agency (ANDE), the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), AGESIC, Antel, and the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM), will seek to accelerate the development and implementation of artificial intelligence solutions designed to address key challenges in areas such as sustainability, humanitarian action, health, and cultural preservation. At the same time, the project will contribute to strengthening local capabilities through knowledge transfer and collaboration among public, private, and academic stakeholders.
The establishment of the laboratory at the LATU Innovation Park consolidates a strategic alliance between Microsoft and LATU, moving into a new phase of collaboration aimed at maximizing the public and social impact of artificial intelligence. This step reinforces the country’s position as a regional benchmark in technological innovation and contributes to the sustainable development of Uruguay and Latin America.
The agreement was presented at an event attended by Alejandro Sánchez, Secretary of the Presidency of Uruguay; Fernanda Cardona, Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining; Lucila Arboleya, President of LATU; Juan Miguel Lavista, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft; and Alejandro Pazos, Country Manager of Microsoft Uruguay.
During the event, details of the project were shared, which will make it possible to design, prototype, and scale artificial intelligence-based tools to address challenges in areas such as health, education, sustainability, government efficiency, and social development.
In this way, LATU strengthens its role as an innovation platform, bringing together technological, scientific, and business capabilities to promote initiatives that contribute to the country’s productive and social progress.
Through their ongoing commitment, LATU and Latitud transform knowledge into impact, with quality, safety, and sustainability at the service of Uruguayan industry and consumers. They foster innovation to generate tangible results that contribute to the country’s development, strengthening the economy and cooperation between the public and private sectors.
