Students from Artigas School (Paraguay) visited Espacio Ciencia
Espacio Ciencia, the interactive museum of the Laboratorio Tecnológico del Uruguay (LATU), was one of the places chosen to visit by two sixth-grade groups of Artigas School (Asunción del Paraguay, Paraguay). This institute, established 93 years ago, is the only Uruguayan public school located abroad, which means its curricular structure is the one used in the Uruguayan public education system. In addition to this, a small percentage of the children who attend to Artigas School are from Uruguay or have Uruguayan parents.
The name of the school, Artigas, relates to José Gervasio Artigas, the Uruguayan national hero, who lived in exile in Paraguay from 1820 to his death in 1850. The school was built in the place where Artigas spent his last years.
The Paraguayan students arrived to Montevideo within the end-of-school trip, organized every year. At the museum, they enjoyed the different attractions, such as Antarctica (an experience that imitates a trip to the Uruguayan base set up in that continent), the ant colony, the Van der Graaff generator, the shadow wall, the giant gyroscope and the bed of nails. Besides Espacio Ciencia, the children also visited other landmarks in Uruguay, such as the Legislative Palace and Punta del Este (one of the most famous cities and resorts of the region).
