Second greenhouse gas report: 25 % lower emissions than in 2022
The new inventory quantified 1,686 tCO₂ equivalent and recorded 117 tCO₂ equivalent in biogenic removals thanks to its tree cover.
In line with SDG 13 (Climate Action) and its 2030 strategy, LATU and Latitud presented their second institutional report on this matter in accordance with ISO 14064-1:2018, consolidating the measurement and management of their carbon footprint.
The assessment covered 2024 emissions at the Montevideo and Fray Bentos facilities. Key results include 1,686 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emitted, representing 25% less than in 2022.
Thanks to the trees on the premises, 117 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent were captured. This offsets greenhouse gas emissions generated by waste production.
The main emission sources considered were:
- Purchased electricity
- Stationary combustion in boilers
- Transport associated with service delivery, suppliers, and staff
- Inputs used, as well as waste treatment and disposal
What factors contributed to the improvement?
- A greater share of renewable energy in UTE’s electricity mix
- Improved efficiency and maintenance of air-conditioning systems, with lower natural gas consumption and minimized leaks
- Improvements in waste management
