First successful year for the INIA, LATU, Latitud and SPF Forestry R&D Consortium

On December 16, the closing meeting of the first year of the Consortium for Forest Research, Development and Innovation of Uruguay, a public-private partnership between the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA), the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU), was held , the Latitud Foundation and the Society of Forest Producers (SPF).

The authorities of the three founding organizations, the Board of Directors and the Technical Advisory Committees were present working within the framework of the Forest R&D Consortium.

During the day, the president of the Board of Directors, Ing. Agr. Diego Carrau, introduced the guests to the objectives and work areas defined for the Consortium and presented the mission and vision of the organization.

Carrau highlighted the significant progress achieved in such a short time in each of the topics covered to date, thanking the commitment of all involved and commented on the challenges and great opportunities that arise in the future for different areas of work.

Next, the representatives of the technical teams (Technical Advisory Committees) presented the various lines of action that are being worked on, the progress and short and long term projects for each subject.

For its part, the Technical Advisory Committee on Sustainability presented its objectives and work plans in relation to environmental monitoring and hydrological modeling; the Forest Protection CTA spoke about the vision of the group of technicians in relation to forest health and the lines of development and research they are working on and finally the Forest Management team detailed the various projects that are being developed related to forestry and management tools.

During the event, on several occasions, the authorities present and the technicians exchanged visions and ideas, and the satisfaction of the progress achieved and the great potential represented by this public-private partnership for Research was highlighted by all, Development and Innovation of the Forestry Sector in Uruguay.
