LATU and CIU launched "Avanza Mypes" program

The initiative aims to support the transformation of micro and small enterprises in the metal-mechanic, forestry and wood, and food sectors.

The Chamber of Industries of Uruguay (CIU) and the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU), with support from the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM), officially launched the Avanza Mypes program at the Entrepreneur Club, located within LATU’s Innovation Park.

This initiative is designed to support micro and small industrial enterprises in the metal-mechanic, forestry and wood, and food sectors, providing them with tools in business management, innovation, eco-innovation, and commercialization.

The launch event featured remarks from Leonardo García, President of CIU, and Lucila Arboleya, President of LATU, along with the technical team behind the program, who presented the program’s details.

García stated: “We know that running a business is not easy. If it’s a challenge for large companies, it’s even more so for micro and small enterprises. At the Chamber of Industries, we see it as our responsibility to support these companies and contribute to their market development.”

Arboleya added: “Uruguay has around 19,000 companies, 15,000 of which are micro-enterprises. That’s why this alliance with the Chamber of Industries is key to supporting their growth. We are very aware of the high failure rate among micro and small enterprises, and we want to contribute to reversing that trend.”

The program aims to reach 225 micro and small enterprises across the country, offering three training cycles delivered virtually. Topics will include business and production management, commercialization, innovation, and eco-innovation. In addition, companies will receive comprehensive diagnostics and action plan development, support for project formulation, and tailored technical assistance.

Avanza Mypes will also strengthen the business ecosystem by connecting participating companies with buyers, value chain stakeholders, and technical experts from LATU and LATITUD. Furthermore, training will be provided to institutional technicians to enhance their capacity to identify company needs and support solution development.

Interested companies can register at the following link: Avanza Mypes. To be eligible, companies must operate within one of the targeted sectors, be legally registered in Uruguay, hold a valid MIEM-issued Mipymes certificate, and be affiliated with a business or trade association.

Selected businesses will have free access to diagnostics, technical assistance, and training, and will be part of a network that fosters knowledge exchange and cooperation among industrial enterprises.
