Avanza Mypes program drives transformation of the country's micro and small industrial enterprises
The Avanza Mypes program, developed by the Chamber of Industries of Uruguay (CIU) and the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU), continues to strengthen micro and small industrial enterprises (MYPEs) through training cycles, diagnostics, and technical assistance.
The first Training Cycle in Management and Commercialization recently concluded for the Metalworking and Forestry-Woodworking sectors. It involved over 30 participants from 20 industrial companies across 11 departments of the country. The initiative, which was 100% subsidized, was conducted virtually and included 12 workshops across six thematic modules, totaling 24 hours of instruction.
The cycle was structured around key topics for business management and the competitiveness of industrial MYPEs, including productivity improvement, strategic planning, process management, commercialization, marketing, and customer relations. It also covered content related to associativity and cooperation among companies, which are vital for developing new business opportunities and collectively addressing common challenges.
New activities underway
The program is currently advancing on four new work streams.
- Sustainable Design and Innovation Training Cycle: This is underway for the three priority sectors (Metalworking, Forestry-Woodworking, and Food). It aims to integrate sustainability and circular economy criteria into design and innovation processes for the development of new products and services.
- Management and Commercialization Training Cycle for Food Sector: Another training cycle has begun, this time specifically targeting industrial MYPEs in the Food sector.
- Diagnostics and Technical Assistance: The program has initiated its first meetings with registered companies to advance the Diagnostics and Technical Assistance phase. This activity seeks to identify opportunities for improvement in the areas where each company faces the greatest challenges and support them in implementing concrete action plans.
- Training for Territorial Technicians: A group virtual training is being conducted to strengthen the capacities of technical staff from public, private, or mixed institutions that provide support to industrial MYPEs. This initiative already has 39 participants from more than 16 institutions nationwide.
Next steps for the program
With a focus on the prioritized value chains—Metalworking, Forestry-Woodworking, and Food—the program continues to support the companies' transformation, providing tools to help them grow, improve their competitiveness, and generate new development opportunities across the country.
In this context, work is ongoing for upcoming activities related to the strengthening and development of industrial MYPEs through meetings with their value chains, interaction with actors from the productive ecosystem, and advice on accessing new support and financing opportunities.
To complement these actions and facilitate access to information for businesses, the program's official website is currently under development. It will centralize all information regarding activities, calls for applications, and news. Once launched, companies will be informed so they can access all available content and services quickly and centrally.
