A new milestone in export support: LATU approved as a testing lab for plastic food packaging exported to Argentina
The National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA) of Argentina, which is responsible for the registration of food products commercialized in the country, has recognized LATU as a testing lab for plastic packaging in contact with food that is exported to the Argentine market. This approval authorizes LATU to provide this service to producers.
From now on, Uruguayan companies in the plastics sector can submit test results from LATU to comply with Argentina's new requirements.
This approval is part of SENASA's Resolution 1081/2024, a new Argentine regulation that allows producers to choose between national and international labs—previously evaluated and accepted by SENASA—to conduct the required analytical tests for the registration process.
Quality and collaboration to boost exports
This authorization exemplifies LATU's commitment to the export sector. It was made possible by adhering to high-quality testing standards and through regional collaboration, which directly benefits Uruguayan production.
This achievement is based on four fundamental pillars of LATU's strategy:
- Quality of analytical services: For decades, LATU's tests have been accredited by national and international organizations and are regularly audited.
- Participation in regional working groups: LATU actively participates in Mercosur's Working Subgroup No. 3 (SGT3), which focuses on technical regulations and conformity assessment. This demonstrates a high level of expertise and ensures quick access to information related to regional trade.
- Focus on customer needs: This advancement directly addresses a need from the export sector, allowing companies to navigate new requirements and maintain their competitiveness.
- Technology transfer: LATU makes its knowledge and experience available to the private sector to help solve commercial challenges.
Potential future authorizations to serve the export sector
The approval for plastic packaging is the first of other potential authorizations, as the new Argentine regulation allows for it.
We invite companies to contact the LATU team to manage authorizations for other types of packaging or tests. This will help speed up the authorization process for products entering Argentina and improve trade flows between both countries.
