15th Public Management Conference
The 15th Public Management Conference was held on october 3 at 9:00 am at the Entrepreneur Club of the LATU Technology Park, an event aimed at executives and managers of public organizations.
Since 2009, the Department of Organizational Management, of the Technology and Management Management of LATU, organizes days of exchange of experiences in public management.
This year's theme was the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), with the main question: How can state institutions contribute to the fulfillment of the SDGs?
The objective of the day was to share and exchange ideas and experiences on aspects related to continuous improvement in public management, as a way of growth and enrichment for all parties.
The exchange throughout this day allowed the present organizations to identify strategies, initiatives or tools that collaborate with the fulfillment of the 2030 agenda.
The event began with a few words of welcome from Fernando Fontán, President of LATU, who stressed the importance of sustainable development: "when we talk about sustainable development, it does not only mean that development generates economic well-being, wealth for society, but also that that wealth is distributed with equity and justice to all levels of the population."
Then made his presentation Alvaro García, Director of the Office of Planning and Budget (OPP), who showed the characteristics of the ODS that the OPP, through the Management and Evaluation (AGEV) with the National Institute of Statistics (INE) ) and the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation (AUCI), is entrusted. He presented the Uruguay Suma Valor initiative and invited those present to take part. "People do a lot of things for sustainable development, so let's try to value those things that we already do, try to mark the things that need to be changed and what needs to be done and work with that hashtag" (#Uruguay Suma Valor ).
For his part, José Dallo, Head of the Subregional Office for the Southern Cone - UN Environment mentioned that "There is a change in the role of public institutions in the implementation of the 2030 agenda of the SDGs where they have to think about their work [...] be more of a facilitator and that means rethinking a lot of the work they do."
Mariella Mazzotti, Director of the National Institute for Women (Inmujeres), presented the National Strategy for Gender Equality to 2030 related to objective 5 sustainable development, stating that "we have present obligations that have to do with building the necessary transformations for the daily life of those who live in Uruguay today, but we also have an obligation because this present constructs the future. The future is not then an abstract situation, it is a reality that is built, "he stressed.
Subsequently, the General Coordinator of the Technological Center of Plastic (CTplas), Paula Iharur, presented the contribution of CTplas to SDGs 4, 8, 9, 12 and 17, explaining that it aims to "consolidate the sustainable development of the plastics industry of Uruguay through technological services that allow to incorporate innovation, training and technology transfer in companies, contemplating aspects of competitiveness and environmental impact ".
The last presentation was made by Fiorella Haim, General Manager of Plan Ceibal, who said that Plan Ceibal makes contributions to its beneficiaries, students and teachers, through its programs and projects and, as a company, he mentioned that "we are signing a agreement with Inmujeres for the issue of certification with gender equity, we are working on all aspects of recycling. "
The day ended with a space for exchange where the actors could share details of their experiences.
